What appears to be an otherwise-faithful recreation of Germany in the middle ages, but with dragons. Far more feudal landownership than I'd expect to fit into an interesting and short volume of young adult lit. Nice.

Great Juvenile book about an unlikely princess and her adventures in midevil Europe. A great vocabulary builder and adventure story.

This book bored me to death I can’t remember what it was about I think my 8 or 9 year old self would have loved it but my current self was bored! I’ve read three books today (true I only had 100 pages left of one...) I am literally so impressed with myself!

This was a delightful book about Tilda whose princess-dom is usurped by her cousin. She has a deformed foot which colors her world negatively, so she decides that her people would be better off without her.

In her ensuing adventure, Tilda learns much about herself, the world around her and what is truly important. While there is not a huge amount of depth owing to it being a middle-grade light fantasy novel, it is enjoyable none-the-less and does have a surprising turn near the end.

This middle grade fantasy was excellent. No it wasn't. It was EXCELLENT.

The main character is a handicapped 13 year old princess who, through adventures she doesn't want, discovers how capable she actually is. The world is an alternate Middle Ages type which, although typical to the genre, is anything BUT typical. The Saints referenced as dragon slayers are male and female, and this is seen as normal. The adults seem completely unreasonable, until the princess gains a little wisdom. The growth in this story is simultaneously subtle and glaringly obvious. The writing is clear and emotive. I highly recommend it for middle grade readers who like high fantasy.

This is a fun read, with plenty of action and a feisty heroine. I particularly loved the horses, and I think it's a great choice if you're a horse fan too.

3.5 stars. I love how the main character actually experiences physical pain openly in this book and how the limiting factors or perceived limits are explored more in depth.
