This book was so compelling! Why I started it: bad boy rockstar, and a Pam Godwin book. What I loved about it: I loved uncovering both of the main characters pasts throughout the book, the chemistry between them was so good, and I liked the healing from trauma aspect. What I didn’t love: this book seemed to drag for a bit in the middle; for the trauma Jay had, the speed of his recovery from drugs/triggers was extremely unrealistic (I think the healing in “Knotted” by this author was written beautifully), and the insta love was not my fave. Overall, however, this book was very unique and engaging, and the complexity of both main characters made it a great read.
I didn't like this book much at all. I hated the capture part, there was nothing erotic about it and I really don't know why I continued to read it. Ginger root, seriously? where do people come up with this stuff?
The only redeeming part was the ending.

"Beneath the Burn" is an intense book filled with scars, both seen and unseen, that need to be healed but still acknowledged rather than hidden away and [a:Pam Godwin|6474204|Pam Godwin|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1376800944p2/6474204.jpg] is a wonderfully gifted writer who allows readers to take the journey, no matter how harrowing but guaranteed to have a light at the very end, with the characters and become drawn into every moment.
Charlee Grosky and Jay Mayard are two individuals who endured and were running from the lives they lived before initially meeting one another in St. Louis and then went on to not just survive but actually relish in living each day after they meet again three years later and go toe-to-toe with the truly diabolical Roy Oxford. There was something special about Charlee and Jay, and while their dark pasts were often skin-crawlingly reprehensible, theirs is a story of both survival and triumph, both as individuals and as a couple.
This book had a complex but ultimately satisfying story and characters that had depth and were evolving throughout. Yes, some of the situations in the book were shocking but rape and abuse are not supposed to be the type of things that make you smile and nod your head approvingly. And yet, there was no turning away from what was happening from the first page to the last. The reader wants a resolution to come about and justice, in whatever form, to prevail.
Without any hesitation, I give "Beneath the Burn" five solid stars and I highly recommend to everyone out there looking for something substantial to read. ^.^

I might go back and try for this one; I just wasnt in the mood for it or the drawn outness of it was putting me off.

One of the reasons I am drawn to dark romance is because I want to get into the brains of the characters. The other reason is that I try and see why authors write what they do. I mean, how so they come up with the idea. This author is one of those that I question. She seems so sweet in her picture. Yet, there is a beauty to her stories. No matter how dark or even atrocious the crime is. I love how she manages to create characters that can heal and overcome, even in unconventional ways.
My heart hurt for Charlee. Yet, it also cheered because she never lost her drive or gave up hope. Jay. Sweet lord this man is an unlikely hero but a hero he was. He had lived through his own hell and that might be why these two had the connection they did.
I wanted more of a resolution in regard to Roy. It seemed to easy after everything. Still, this was a good book.
