Oh my god, I did not see that ending coming! I love this series - great mysteries, great fantasy story, great characters, and it just keeps getting better and better.

The time jump confused me at first. Charley seems a bit emotionally gone for most of the book. I enjoyed part of the end but the very end not so much.

Really happy I waited to read this until [b:The Dirt on Ninth Grave|23848452|The Dirt on Ninth Grave (Charley Davidson, #9)|Darynda Jones|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1433877825s/23848452.jpg|43458366] is almost out.
Reading reviews I can see where some people would have issue with the way events transpired, but I think a lot of that (not all but some) will be contingent upon how things play out in Ninth Grave.
We'll see soon!

I am a fan of this series. Charley and Reyes will always be one of my favorite couples. There could not be a more perfect match. Yet, I would be amiss if I did not mention everyone else as well. They are what help to make this series great.

Ok, I am not going to say that Charley's pregnancy slowed her down but it seemed to bring her sassy wit down. I found that lacking the most in this book. She was not the only one that seemed to be muted; Reyes was docile as well. There just was not a lot of things happening in the book and with the lack of sarcasm the book was just alright. Although, I am intrigued to get to know more about Beep. Still a fan though.

4 ½ stars rounded up.

Eighth Grave After Dark picks up with pregtastic Charley and her band of merry men and women holed up on the consecrated grounds of an abandoned convent – awaiting the arrival of Beep and avoiding the 12 hell hounds sent to tear her limb from limb. There are only a couple of brief mysteries of the day with the majority of the book advancing the overall plot and answering burning questions like: what is Charley and why is she here, who are the 12 sent, who summoned the 12 hell hounds, what exactly is Mr. Wong’s deal and who is the Thirteenth Warrior and how will he tip the scales. FINALLY!

Charley is coming into more of her powers and in this installment she was somewhat less annoying than usual. Her “sense of humor” (and I use the term lightly) seemed toned down a tad – although she still takes some unnecessary chances and does some stupid things (I mean for a God and all – just sayin’). I still don’t feel the chemistry or romance between her and Reyes – but I like Reyes as a character. I like all the secondary characters. (And how about that Denise? Did NOT see that coming.)

I knew I loved Osh from the moment he graced the page as “The Dealer”. In the romance department I’m all set with Charley and Reyes and I would LOVE to move on to Osh and (an age appropriate) Beep.
Overall the pace was steady, there was a good amount of action and some of my questions were finally answered – so – it was all good

Jones keeps finding new ways to put Charley back into the fire, pregnant or not and I'm here for it!

I've really enjoyed this series but now with a baby in the mix. I really want Charlie to start taking better care of herself. It's really starting to grate on my mom nerves. I'd want to do everything Charlie does but you have a tiny human that depends on you for EVERYTHING. You woman up, you accept you can't solve all the worlds problems, and you take care of your damn baby. Also, please for the love of Reyes stop LYING TO HIM. It is driving me crazy. What's even worse, is that he always knows and it always hurts his feelings. I will have to take a break from this series because these two are grating on my nerves. That being said I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars because Charley is always entertaining.
