Book Review…The Maze Cutter by James Dashner

Seventy-three years after the events of The Death Cure, when Thomas and other immunes were sent to an island to survive, their descendants have thrived. Sadina, Isaac, and Jackie all learned about the unkind history of the Gladers from The Book of Newt and tall tales from Old Man Frypan, but when a rusty old boat shows up one day with a woman bearing dark news of the mainland everything changes.

I enjoyed the maze runner series so I was excited to read this one! It was interesting to see how the people on the island have survived and made it home but also for the people who didn't come to the island. And just like in the maze runner I enjoyed the friendships and the bonds that the characters have with one another. It has a good adventure, some good characters and it will be interesting to see where this series goes. Thank you R&R Book Tours and James Dashner for sharing this book with me!

I wish I could give this book a higher rating. First of all, I started the book and hoped I would find a character to relate to, like Newt, Mark and Teresa. But it turns out that all of the characters have no personality. Isaac has a couple of interests, no detail in Sadina and Trish's relationship, Minho is just a boy with a past and a dream. Plus, the frequent change of POVs (every one or two pages) was really confusing. Especially the part set in Alasca, with Alexandra, didn't really have a reason. The plot was extremely slow at the beginning and too quick in the fight scenes and all the adventures. It seemed like the whole point of the book was the plot twist at the end, because the rest of the book made no sense. The main character of the series is Newt, but the only things we read from his journal are his emotions. He found his sister, he met Keisha, he said a tough goodbye to Thomas, he came back to life. Nothing in the Maze Cutter. Newt was only mentioned as someone with a valuable blood. And that's it. Because he is the cure. I predicted all this before even finishing the Fever Code. Also, why is he subject A4? All us fangirls had 5 as our favourite number etc, and all we got was a change from A5 to A4?

I think this book has so many bad reviews because they are expecting the maze runner but it’s not even close to it in regards to storyline. It’s a bit confusing at first and I was hoping once all the characters were together that the different POVs would end but even then it added so much to the story. Some of the reviews mentioned the lack of personality from the characters but I definitely don’t agree in the slightest. The orphan Minho on his own is amazing  with his awesome character development from going from an absolute killer to a person with a heart. Isaac and Sadina are also great in my opinion . They add so much too the story as well as Roxy. The adults yes, they are basically useless but everyone else (the main characters) are great. Definitely a good read if u go into it with an open mind.
