This story was different, and I actually do enjoy student and teacher relationship books, but this was ridiculous. It was detailed, more or less in how Nine, the main character, was going to put revenge on her teacher after he stops a couple month relationship. Nine goes insane, like completely crazy and therefore she makes me crazy.
This is what happens when I choose books from shelves. I end up reading poorly written and boring novels. This book features a shallow, two dimensional teenager who loses the plot and severely unrealistic characters and situations.

I'm very conflicted over my rating for this. For one, it reads like an LMN movie, and I could NOT put it down, there was so much going on, so much intensity. Another thing, I actually appreciated the quick, short writing style, I think it added to Nine's intensity and franticness. It was really just the ending that made me drop points because I felt like it lost a lot of the momentum, and I was unsatisfied. Overall though, it felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie and I loved that!
So this book was nothing short of terrible. I hate saying that about books, but this book was SO difficult to get through. There were so many useless details added to it. I felt like it had the foundations of a good story: sexy teacher, smart girl, secret relationship, cool best friend, but all the pieces didn't come together. There was too...too much of the non-essentials and not enough fluidity. The writing killed me, I didn't like how the story was told, it was slow, choppy, muddled, and it had a lot of jargon. But at the same time it just seemed so panicked & frantic. Most of all though the story lacked clarity. There were glimmers of it but not enough to make a clear, cohesive story.
One plus, Schuyler was great!

This book wasn't at all what I imagined it would be and I love it. The character of Nine was just normal at the beggining but then you realize of how can love change such a normal person and lead them to do the unthinkable. I think that's awesome. Maybe a bit creepy but I loved it.
An intense look at a teacher/student relationship and the aftermath. The book shows how the relationship affects not only the girl in question, but her relationship with her family and her best friend. While her reactions could be considered extreme, I think they make sense in this case. The relationship was so intense that the whiplash once it ended had to be intense as well.
I found this book rather strange. The whole story was thoroughly odd ... seriously, what was up with Carolina, the first-person narrator? Everything just seemed to happen so fast ... I really don't know what to say about this book.
I picked this up after seeing the plot and thinking it was very interesting. The novel presents a very realistic view of a student/teacher affair without the fantasy romance. The most impressive part however was the use of language in the novel, it made it innovative and different.
Another book read to help me prepare for my NaNoWriMo topic, and I've got to say my characters are nothing like these turned out to be. Thankfully. I'd let this sit at about 2.5 stars out of 5 just because it did manage to at least entertain me.
Nine is... really a terribly crazy person, and I thought so even before things in the affair went sour just because of the way she thought. Which, by the way. a lot of her supposedly smart thoughts were straight up incorrect. Not sure if the author didn't know what they were talking about or if she was meant to get some things wrong, but yeah. I found myself really wanting her to get in trouble for some of the crazy things she was doing and I had pretty much no sympathy for her by the end. The teacher was in the wrong as well, and that's coming from someone that has nothing against these sort of affairs in literature. Sure, he was a jerk, but I STILL don't think he deserved this level of crazy being thrown at him. Nine's poor parents and best friend were all so sweet, she doesn't deserve any of them really. All the time Mr. Mann said she was mature for her age and different- but he must have been blinded by "love" because the readers sure don't see any of that. Show- don't tell.
I'm not sure what else to say without rambling, just that it frightens me to see so many women/girls giving this a high rating and relating to the main character.

This is a great book and Nelson is an incredible writer. I started writing a book for National Novel Writing Month dealing with a similar issue and ten days in, I read this book. Nelson did what I was trying to do and a million times better. Fantastic read.
