I did very much enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written, had interesting and sympathetic characters, was well paced and extremely page turning but it loses a star for its, at times, quite frankly ridiculous plot. Still worth reading though!

To enjoy this book, you must first accept that an astrophysicist hops in an 18-wheeler truck with her 10 year deaf daughter and drives into northern Alaska in the dead of winter, during a fierce storm. If you can do that, you will find a gripping tale of suspense, resilience, and love.

The main characters, Yasmin, and her daughter Ruby, are strong and fearless as they journey across Alaska. The details, given by the author, of how cold feels and what silence is, blew me away.

I could not put the book down once I accepted the decision for Yasmin to take her daughter on this journey.

While I loved this book the story line hit a lil too close to home for me. I live in Ohio which is currently an epicenter for fracking. While some are making millions, others are seeing their land, water & air quality deteriorate & I worry of accidents of epic proportions. Glad to read a book with an endearing story line plus a current event.

I was so disappointed with this book.
It was plodding, ridiculous and unrealistic

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I finally had the time to sit down and read it after picking it up and having to put it down. This is one you will want to read and not put down for anything! It is a little slow when starting but by the 6/7th chapter you will be sucked in! LOVED IT!!!!!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

I have enjoyed Lupton's other novels and this was no exception. The setting, Alaska, above the Arctic Circle was well done with the references to the native population, the stars, the wildlife and more through the eyes of the characters. The plot was not very plausible, but one wants to believe in the strong characters of Ruby and her mom as they ride off to save Matt. The characterization of the deaf daughter, Ruby, was well done. I liked the strong voice she maintained throughout the book.

Although this is a novel of suspense and adventure, the message about the environment and fracking comes through loud and clear.

Well done!
