I loved so much of it but I didn’t enjoy how the timeline was done. It worked I guess but it made some of it repetitive and confusing.

A brief but deeply impactful read. Haushofer creates a claustrophobic, almost Kafkaesque atmosphere while exploring the bond between humans and animals, the value of animal life, and the quiet forms of inhumanity. Sparse yet powerful.
Slow, want more info about the wall, unbelievable premise and the time jumping makes it feel very disjointed

This is a book where remarkably little takes place. The afterword made me appreciate this fact much more— this is the fantasy of a woman trapped by the realities of womanhood imagining what a life free from that imposition would look like. It’s a diary of day to day farming and survival with little intense action or real threats you feel (except for at the end, but even that felt removed from the audience), interspersed with sharp reflections on the frivolity and gravity of civilization and the main characters former life. I’m glad I read it, though I don’t know that everyone needs to.

tengo sentimientos encontrados.
