*this book was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*

This book is about a teenager who is kidnapped and is told his life has been a lie. This book was good and I totally didn't expect the story to be how it way. I was expecting this book to be a full-on thriller/mystery novel but Roe gave me a whole different story. I really enjoyed the writing of this book. Sayers (the MC) is the rude, rich boy who gets kidnapped and is traumatized. I mean I would be too. I really enjoyed how the story was laid out because I didn't expect the story to be how it was written. At first, it was hard for me to get into but it got better throughout as the pacing is fast and so much happens. I really enjoy how there is a whole relationship and development theme in this thriller book. Usually, you don't see that often but there is also a learning experience for the readers.

The main character is Sayers and I would say that you wouldn't love him at first but you will later in the story. He had such wonderful character development and I enjoyed reading his story. It was an emotional job not just for him but also for me. There are also many side characters that some you will like and some not so much. But they were very involved with the story in some way and the relationships that were formed and developed were so well done. There is no romance in this book but don't let that get to you because the story is great.

The ending was well done and let me say that I had to put down the book right after to process what I read. The story was so well written and nothing felt overdone but balanced. At first, I was a little suspicious about how a long thriller was going to work out but I see it now. I had no problems with this book at all and I totally recommend this book. It's a must read!

I finished Dark Room Etiquette in probably three hours, with few breaks in between. I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time.
This book explores trauma and its effects in depth, and boy was it intense. Sayers had such a wild yet beautiful character arc. The characters and situations were a little unrealistic to me, but being inside Sayers’s head felt so real.

Thank you HarperTeen and Let’s Talk Books Promo for a digital ARC.

This gave me a lot of Room by Emma Donoghue vibes, but for a YA audience. It was a tough read on many levels, from the way Sayers treated his classmates before he was kidnapped, to the psychological torture he was put through during his captivity. But at the same time it was written well to be able to capture the emotions he was going through during the process.
