WOW!!!! This book was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!
I went into this book with no expectations. All I knew is it was a YA book about a 16 year old boy who gets kidnapped. Which isn’t what I normally gravitate towards. But, to my surprise It BLEW ME AWAY!
Before Sayers was kidnapped I despised his character. My first thoughts were wow this kid is a self absorbed rich a-hole.
The psychology trauma this boy goes through is gut-wrenching. I can’t really say much without giving away the story… but it will have you on the tip of your toes trying to figure out what happens next.
The story is not only about the kidnapping but also life after.. trying to get back to a normal life after going through the unimaginable. The main characters transformation was chilling. My heart broke so many times while reading this story.
I absolutely loved it, this book deserves all the stars!!!
Trigger Warnings:
-Kidnapping
-Psychological torture
-Abuse
-Mention of SA
-Bulling
-Starvation
-Brainwashing
-Death

This was such a great book! I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect when I started this one since I like going into books blind, but this one was amazing! It started off a bit slow and at the time I was wondering why, but after finishing the book, the beginning pace made sense. Overall, I did not want to put this one down and I kept hoping to find more time to continue reading! I loved that this book was written in first person POV. This book had my attention the entire time and I will definitely be looking for more books by Robin Roe! This is one of those books where I don’t know how to review without spoiling anything, so just know that this book is great and it’s a must read!

"Dark Room Etiquette" by Robin Roe follows 16 year old Sayers who is kidnapped by a man because, of his privileged life.
I would give "Dark Room Etiquette" by Robin Roe a 3-star review because, 1; I liked how this book gives background from before he was kidnapped and after/during 2; the writing was great 3; the narrator was wonderful 4; it was easy to follow but 4; I felt it was a little too long and I was expecting something a little different but this was still enjoyable.

The whole thing is pretty miserable, but with the subject matter I suppose that’s par for the course. I couldn’t put out it down, but also couldn’t stand to be in the main characters head regardless of what was happening in the plot. I would have enjoyed more clinical/psychological context regarding his healing journey afterwards to balance out the sour taste that most of the book left.
