Dark Room Etiquette is a haunting and chilling glimpse into the trauma of kidnapping and Stockholm Syndrome. I've never read anything similar. It was so unique and well written and I genuinely felt for the characters. It was absolutely horrifying what some of them went through and I'm not going to sugarcoat the fact that some points in this book made me extremely uncomfortable and got under my skin. It takes great skill to be able to tackle such topics, and Robin Roe did an extremely good job writing this book, I know it will stick with me.

I loved A List of Cages by Robin Roe and when Dark Room Etiquette was announced for pre-order I immediately pre-ordered without knowing what it was about. It ended up on my bookshelf where it had stayed until yesterday when I was pursuing my shelf for something to read.
I can't believe I have put this book off for that long. Sayers story completely broke me emotionally. You have a boy from a rich family that is handed everything and doesn't care about anything. He is kidnapped and put through hell for over a year. When he is rescued his hell doesn't end. I had to stop reading a few times to get ahold of my bearings. I will say read with caution if you are easily triggered by certain things.

A true ride for the reader that is moving, gripping and eye-opening.
We are in the main character's head as he is swooped up in his life as a privileged, popular, shallow teen who feels the pressure to keep the status quo (and makes us think, "WHEW what a jerk" more than once), gets kidnapped, realizes how he might survive this experience, and the fallout from there.
Fascinating and heartbreaking and thought-provoking.
Note: This book deals with trauma and crimes against youth in a way that never felt contrived or gratuitous. Nothing in this book was triggering for me, which was absolutely more about how the author wrote the content than the content, itself. I applaud her for this.
