Pinky swear this is NOT a permanent dnf, I respect my girl VE too much for that, this is just not her moment, she’s giving fall/winter energy tbh and I will return when I can match the energy

I can’t say that this is my favorite book of Schwab’s, but it surely contains that magical element that I love in her stories. I love being drawn into the world that is being built in everything I’ve read of hers. The Near Witch is no different.

I will say this book infuriated me. The way the men treat the women literally made me want to punch someone in the face, multiple times. But I think that was the point. The book shows how ignorant and stubborn people can be when they don’t understand something or don’t want to change their beliefs. But the way stories play a role in this novel is what made it. I think it also shows how easily violence is bred.

Anyways, I’m here for it. So book two ? If you’re out there, I’m waiting.

I just didnt care much for this book. 90% of the time i wished i already finished it.

Im not sure what it is. The writing isnt my favourite. The story isnt my favourite. Theres just something about stories like this written like this that just doesnt full encapture my interest or attention.

Once again, not the worst thing or the best thing out. Will probably definitely be one of my least favourite ve schwab books. But then again this is the first book she ever wrote/released so it makes sense.

Regardless, i had high hopes for this. I remember when i first heard about it, it sounded so good. But now that ive read it, im just thoroughly disappointed.

*all the kissing was weird
*hated tyler
*uncle and all the men pissed me off
*honestly just didnt like story period

It was a bit engrossing at times, hence the 10% missing. But i just didnt care for the characters much, the story, the plot. Im just glad it was short.

*pg 30/41

I absolutely loved this book! Tying classic fear-based public response to witchcraft and its practice to a more modern but unspecified time. I loved its classic feel with twists on how a witch is defined or what they might look like. The story tells about hunters with stories told like legends. Schwab also offers great characters. The young heroine is admirable and fiery. Mixed with some mild romance, I really enjoyed the plot and the storytelling both by the author and by her characters. I would recommend both print and audio versions.
