In a beautiful house surrounded by woodland, the Drayton family and their dearest friends are enjoying dinner together. The wine is flowing, the meal has been lovingly prepared, and it’s going to be an evening none of them will ever forget…
This was a very quick read for me because it was well-paced and gripping. I did not realize that this is part of a series featuring the same detective, but it works just fine as a standalone. For the most part, I enjoyed this and was entertained the whole time. I thought the use of multiple POVs contributed to the story, with Libby's POV being particularly interesting.
As entertaining as this was, I did have a couple of issues with it. Namely, the book is called "The Night of the Party", so I figured that it would be the kind of thriller where big secrets are revealed throughout the course of a single night and by the end someone is dead. In reality, the great majority of the book did not take place at that party or on that night. I just had a different idea of what type of story this would be, so when it wasn't that set up it threw me off a little. This is more of a procedural thriller. Secondly, the story was somewhat generic and predictable, but when you read as many thrillers as I do, that is somewhat inevitable.
Though this novel may ultimately not stand out in my memory in the future, I still had a lot of fun reading it. Overall, I liked this and recommend it for those in search of a quick and easy read with compelling characters. I will be looking into this author's other novels!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review. You can read The Night of the Party of 01/12/21!

I knew I was going to enjoy this book, I loved The Women Inside by the same author, and didn’t realize it was a SERIES. so that’s more books to add to my TBR
The adults are throwing a dinner party. Libby and Tom, Una and Jim there best friends are asking Evie to stop and play the piano before she leaves for the night with friends. Evie leaves but never returns home at 1030. She was also not with the friend whom she was supp to be.
Eventually, they find her brutally murdered and the homicide case begins.
However, Evie was not who she made herself out to be. At. All. She was a typical, curious, and rebellious normal teen. But her parents have zero, and I mean zero clue how much they are in the dark.
Evie was as fake as they come. She had everyone fooled around her. And she used and abused all.
Everyone looks guilty. Everyone has done something to mess with this girl, or her give it right back. And each new lead in the investigation makes you change your mind, constantly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ S̓̓T̓̓A̓̓R̓̓S̓̓

3.8 Excellent suspenseful book with characters that hide many secrets. It all begins with a dinner between two married couples and an unexpected death. As detective Dan Riley advances in the investigation, it is revealed that no one is what they seem, everyone hides many secrets, particularly the victim. The story is very well written and leads to conclusions that make the reader believe that they have cracked the mystery, but it is only an illusion that lasts until the next twist. The story is constantly presenting new challenges, inviting you to keep reading non stop till the end.
Really enjoyed the book overall, well written and the story kept me hooked. Really makes you think about how you perceive relationships and how they are viewed to the outside world.
I think I guessed it was the mums friend who pushed her down the stairs around the time they said they wore the same perfume. It never sat quite right that the mum would do it she was too doting and single minded in her opinion of her daughter.
I also worked out who the killer was couple of chapters before the end, just from a couple of lines in a chapter which made me think I know where this going.
Lost a star because I don’t like that they made the autistic girl the killer, who is 12 and has a mental age of a child a lot younger.
I think it adds to the misrepresentation of autistic people in the media and it’s not something I am comfortable with.

DNF. I tried really hard to get into this story but it kept losing me. I found the use of single quotation marks really distracting and I eventually just had to stop trying to get into the night of the party. I really thought I'd like this novel more.

The Night of the Party by Anna-Lou Weatherley
I give this book 4.stars
A doting mother
with a manipulative daughter.
A loving husband
lying to his family.
A close friend
keeping a shocking secret.
And a beautiful girl
It’s going to be an evening none of them will ever forget………
This is part of a series which l didn’t realise but worked great as a standalone.
The story is told from Evie and Libby’s viewpoint and also Detective Dan Riley. Who is Libby really? Who can you trust ? What are the secrets and lies?
The authors writing style is engaging and pacy and l raced through this. I love any book that involves Police procedures and immediately liked Dan.
Would l recommend this book…. absolutely if you love a good thriller!
With thanks to Netgalley, Anna-Lou Weatherley and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book

The book is a good thriller with a fast-paced plot. It, on the other hand, has nothing unique or unusual to offer. The twists were simple to predict, especially for a thriller reader.
The plot became monotonous near the conclusion due to the lack of action.
I’ll recommend this to the readers who are beginners in this genre. You will enjoy this.
