Wow wow wow.
Life got in the way of me investing myself in this book the way I wanted to, but once I found the time I was blown away.
This story is dark and gory, but it is so complex and beautiful.
The writing is brilliant and the dark humor adds levity without detracting from the quality of story telling (the author making fun of his own footnotes made me chuckle out loud.)

I normally can’t handle “dark”, but this was done in such a way that it didn’t turn me off from the story.

Brilliant character driven coming of age story featuring found family (my favorite) with epic divinities and massive scope that doesn’t take away from the relationship building.

I loved the journey of this trilogy more than I expected to.

Now that I’ve completed this series, I can safely say I wanted more from the books in terms of world building and magic systems. The ending was pretty good though and I hope Jay Kristoff writes another fantasy series I can enjoy in the future.

I was really not liking this for the first 75% of the book. It pulled itself together at the end, but still one of my most disappointing reads this year.

DNF. Nope. Not interested in a love triangle, that shit just upsets me.

Also, not a fan of the chosen one trope. Revenge stories are awesome though which is why I loved Nevernight. This isn't really consistent with the first two books.

It's too bad because I really really loved the first book. I'm going through the stages of grief at the moment.

Also, fuck Ashlinn. I don't even hate her for the Tric thing. I hate her because she bores me. Her killing Tric was the only interesting thing about her. I also am not interested in constant smut with a character I can't get around to liking even if I did forgive her. Tric was just a better character to be honest, and I felt the relationship between Mia and Ashlinn was very forced and voyeuristic and weird.
