3.5 I really Love Jaymin’s first world trilogy but found this series to have been way to faced paced. The entire final showdown scene that the 3 books were building up to was done in like 15 pages and was a big let down imo.

How could this have gone so WRONG??!!!

I really liked book 1 in this series 'Ash'. I immediately moved on to book 2 'Anarchy' which gave a bit more problems, but overall I was excited to get to the last book as I wanted to know how the story would end. But book 3 was a DNF for me. What happened!!?

Book 1 had a young Charlie forced into the Hive after changing into an ash, fighting for her life with help of Ryder, head of the enforcers and overall badass. I liked their developing romance and even when I disliked the Hive, I wanted to know more. This was a good book for me.

Book 2 had Charlie getting a bit too cocky for my taste. Yes, she learned how to fight, but only to survive 2 culling-fights as she was helped a lot. She decided she wanted to be an enforcer. Okaaayyyy. But why? She doesn't display any special prowess at fighting or strength. She is allowed to be a rookie enforcer only for protection purposes. Jayden, her BAFF (Best Ash Friend Forever) is a gay black man and after fighting in the culling for FIVE DAYS!! he is then reduced to the stereotypical gay man. Loving clothes, always gossiping with Charlie and calling each other 'bitch'. Yeah..
Because of her being the 'unicorn ash' she gets special treatment by the 'Sexy six' and soon calls them her boys, her family. And Ryder is the love of her life. Yup, after just a couple of weeks/months.
Danger is everywhere it is explained, but the group takes their time in running off. The vampires that seem to know everything are really slow I guess, because they have weeks to reconvene at the roof to make plans for their escape. Made it feel less hurried.

Book 3 has Charlie and her group of 'boys' in Alaska, meeting another 'unicorn'. It is as if another author took over this book, really. Charlie is more annoying than ever. She thinks she is the leader of the group of enforcers and Ryder just indulges her. Let's get this straight: we are talking about 6 enforcers, most of them around 50 years old (they just age really slow) and heavily trained. But Charlie, 21 and without training, thinks she can take everyone down.
In this book she is regressing to a young teenager. Angry when the men want to protect her because 'they are a team' and she is badass. Yeah, not so much. It is more bluster than action. Obviously BAFF Jayden never joins any fights because he is busy with clothes and hair. Charlie never joins any fights either, she is mostly in the way, but nobody tells her.

What annoyed me most I think is the fact these 'sexy 6' have lived in the Hive for 30 years (Ryder at least) and NEVER tried to change anything. They just let themselves be used by the vampires and treated like shit. I also did not get how strong the vampires were supposed to be. The sexy 6 could take a vampire down, there were more ash than vampires. But almost a 100 enforcers were easily killed by the vampires??!!!

The big plan to save the world is also very unlikely. Just in time for Christmas. Yes..
