Finally finished this. Good story, good systems, awful crude writing that put me off reading it, which is why it took me HALF A YEAR to get around to finishing it.

Fantastic writing, mediocre plot. I almost stopped reading this around a fifth of the way through since, after recently reading Mistborn and The Lies of Locke Lamora, another magical thief story wasn't something I was looking for. Ultimately I'm glad I decided to keep reading this one, because it was a really fun story.

The downside of this book was the plot itself. I don't think it was structured super well, and the story itself isn't exactly memorable. At parts it seemed like even the characters didn't know why they were on this adventure.

The best part of the book by far was the style of narration and the intricate prose. The main character Kinch is witty and sarcastic, and introduces you to his world in such a great way that doesn't feel at all exhausting. The characters in this book and the events they found themselves in were all absurd and entertaining, making it hard to put the book down.

The words just flow on the paper and is a pleasure to read. Rather dark humor and enlightenly free of overtime nice words - instead, the writing is as rough as the character. Despite the roughness the book is full of love, plots and different set of characters. At times the characters do not bring much depth, and the finishing is rather abrupt and without much build up, which takes it down a star.

Nevertheless, a very pleasant read and I look forward to more fantasy books of Buehlman.
