Asimov delivers again! First half of the book is a little slow, but I found it very hard to put the book down when reading the second half. What an absolute delight to read!

Just fucking fantastic, as always. 10s all around. The Foundation Saga maintains it’s position as my fave scifi series of all time, I fear.

I loved the Foundation Trilogy when I read it forty-odd years ago. And Magnifico Giganticus is still one of my favorite characters in all of SF. I've known about [b:Foundation's Edge|76683|Foundation's Edge (Foundation #4)|Isaac Asimov|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1442311409l/76683._SY75_.jpg|1725527] for a long time but never quite got around to reading it. So after reading the trilogy again recently I took that dusty copy off my shelf and cracked it open with anticipation.

Anticipation that was not quite justified. It's a fine story but I guess the trilogy didn't really need a sequel. And I didn't enjoy the history revisions in here! Perhaps I'm reading too much into them (there aren't many) but they didn't make a lot of sense to me.

And now I need to read [b:Foundation and Earth|29582|Foundation and Earth (Foundation #5)|Isaac Asimov|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1389759320l/29582._SY75_.jpg|532290] because this one really is a two-parter. Be warned…

Ok. Maybe two and a half. I put off reading this book for 30 years until I finally gave in when I was passing a charity shop with the prospect of a long train journey ahead of me. It passed the time, though in not sure why. There's a lot of talking by men who really, really love the sound of their own voices. There are women characters who make Bayta Darrell from Foundation and Empire look like Becky Sharp from Vanity Fair. And there's the worst ending ever. I mean awful. But back to the women who run the range from shrewish harridan to Westworld sex-bot and none of the spaces in between. It's dreadful.
Ok, not completely dreadful. When it's just two men fond of the sound of their own voices (are they all author substitutes?) it's oddly hypnotic. But I can't honestly say my life has been particular enhanced by finishing this.
