This went from mediocre to bad. There was a lot of potential but the writing just didn't follow through. Which is a shame. The characters were interesting but none of them had a unique voice and their relationship building with Zara was all over the place.

  • okay i'm writing this review a month after reading so forgive my bad memory but here’s what i can recall
  • i’m all for breaking stereotypes but this book was just weird as fuck in a lot of ways
  • the world is supposed to be like a medieval high fantasy type thing? which is weird as shit to mix with omegaverse imo but i digress
  • there were 5 MMCs and none of them were well-developed, leaving a lot to wonder about and be unsatisfied about there
  • it felt like one guy would come be the star to fulfill the FMC’s desires and shit and then melt into the background for a lot of it which was like bruh ??
  • the FMC doesn’t really have great development either when it comes to her relationships, she was just so shallow all the time
  • a lot of the world was introduced very detailed at the beginning when it was hard to care but by the end a lot of plot and world shit was just skimmed over to make room for the relationships which felt rushed and lackluster
  • it also was just completely non-memorable, which okay to be fair i feel this way about a lot of books in this genre but especially with this one, even right after reading certain things it’d have me blinking and being like “what ??”
  • the plot also didn’t really go anywhere and felt lost, like kidnapped omegas ooh big deal! but then oop doesn’t matter anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • also at the beginning there was like her childhood best friend that barely knew her and there was SO MUCH focus on him and it turns out he is literally irrelevant ?? so why so much simping for nothing ??????
  • anyway overall it was pretty boring to read and poor enough written that even with the cliff hanger type ending i did not care in the slightest what happened next which answered whether i should read the next or not lol

DNF @ 40%

While I really like the premise - there’s a serious lack of world building. I don’t feel I understand the magic or how exactly the various designations interact (other than vague A/B/O/D descriptions) very well and the individual characters are flat. Weirdly, Jaiyen was the most dynamic and well developed even if he was an asshole.

There’s some vague-ing that I guess is supposed to keep me interested, unfortunately it’s not that compelling. I want to really care about these characters and instead I have to keep reminding myself to pick this back up.

This isn’t terrible, it just isn’t holding my attention like I want a story to.

There’s some good ideas here, but unfortunately nothing is well executed. I think this author is worth following, but this book needed more work before publication.

There’s 5 guys, and all of them spend more than half the book “away” because the authors couldn’t juggle all of them. The heroine is likable in general, but it’s hard to get a sense that she truly cares for any of these guys when she’s so busy jumping from one bed to the next.

I honestly wasn’t sure if her childhood crush was going to come back and redeem himself after the beginning, and it made me very confused about how I was supposed to feel about him. Because he was awful, but why did we spend so much time with him if he wasn’t important?

Her spirit guy is sweet and kind, but we never learn WHY he’s drawn to her. I guess the “We have a magic connection” was enough for some people? I wanted more about why they’re comparable and what he’s actually getting from that the relationship with her.

The relationship with her sentinel moves really fast. Within 3 days, we’re already at “I’ll never leave you and will upend my entire life for you.” I get it’s a romance novel, but it’s been three days. Totally broke my suspension of disbelief. Slow down. You’ve got time to develop this. They exchange magic mirrors—presumably to eliminate the problem of him being gone for most of the book. But then they use it ONCE. What was the point then?

Asano is the best developed — as evidence by the fact I remember his name. But I never felt a connection between her and Asano’s alpha. So these two together are the best and worst of her relationships.

Moody prince also happened way too fast. I wasn’t feeling the sexual tension enough between them for him jumping on her impatiently to work. And then he tries to break up with her at the end? Like seriously people — communication please!

So I’m short, I was too frustrated by the fact that the relationships were so shallow for this to work for me, even though a lot of the magic was fun and interesting.

These were sweet books with interesting world building. They are in need of copy editing, or I would have rated them higher.

Holy spicy!

I loved the magic system in this world- where designations indicate magical ability (before social hierarchy). I also loved the relationship building between Zara and her mates, it felt natural and seamless.

This is definitely a book that requires a certain amount of “yes, and…” The world is one of horse drawn carriages but the characters also call each other dude and know what the riot act is. I really enjoyed it regardless.
