Fans of Sarah J. Maas have long awaited the arrival of House of Sky and Breath.
Throughout this book, Bryce and her friends try their hardest to STAY OUT of trouble. Everything was going so smoothly, and they actually managed to live decently normal lives until they find themselves tumbling into a rebel cause.
Listen, I am a die-hard Sarah J. Maas fan. But, after waiting nearly two years for this book, I have to say I’m a little disappointed. The second book just doesn't compare to the first one. However, the first one was phenomenal so it's hard to beat.
I really struggled to finish this book. Mostly because the pacing was very slow compared to the rest of her books. The first half of the book, which I do not say lightly because that’s nearly 400 pages, took me a long time to finish. I felt like I was just reading the everyday mundane lives of these characters. Which was slightly entertaining a suppose, but not entertaining enough that it was a page-turner.
The second half was faster-paced, but by that point, you’ve lost me if I’m 400 pages in already. I do understand why it needed to be done though. SJM needed to build relationships and alliances between more characters. There is an upcoming war, and the foundations of war needed to be laid out. I just wish it could have been delivered in a more action-packed way.
With that being said, I did enjoy lots of Hunt and Bryce time. I enjoyed Ruhn’s banter and bonding with his closest Flynn and Declan. The whole group dynamics gave me such a “found family” vibe that I was living for. Overall, I think that the humour in the book always makes me laugh and I love how sassy and sultry Bryce is.
I am still very excited about the next book. With the shocking ending that SJM left us off at, I firmly believe that the following book is going to be insane.
Also, I LOVE ITHAN AND I NEED AN ENTIRE BOOK OF HIM.
3.75/5 stars
P.S I don’t know why I felt so weird reading Ruhn’s s3x scenes??? Ruhn is like a brother to me…
