What an amazing follow up from book 1 The Surgeon! Intense doesn’t begin to describe The Apprentice, this is a on the edge of your seat, heart racing suspense that i couldn’t get enough of. There is consistently always something going on. Not only is it a fast paced thriller but i find myself learning so much about things like autopsies and medical procedures ect..

I’m so glad we got to hear about Jane Rizzoli in more depth , I not only like her more in this book but i understand her better. Her character has come along way in this book, her character development was amazing. I loved the tension between her and mysterious FBI Agent Gabriel Dean. I found his character so intriguing. Would LOVE for him to be in more of this series, i can’t get enough!!!

One year after Rizzoli put ‘The Surgeon” behind bars a new serial killer is on the loose, with extreme similarities to the surgeons signatures Jane gets dragged into the case and has to face a lot of demons she spent a year trying to fight. When The Surgeon escapes from jail she is once again a target. (My first thoughts on him escaping from jail was that it seemed far fetched but as you go into his mind it all then makes sense and works out well)

i’ve never been more hooked on a series of books quite like these before, i can not put them down and i can not wait to start the next. they are everything you want in a thriller book. it exceeds my expectations and i would happily add these books to the top of my favourites list.

Another solid thriller. This book delivers on the promise to feature Jane Rizzoli as the main character and introduces Maura Isles as the medical examiner. There's a lot more depth to Rizzoli this time around and an interesting addition in the form of Gabriel Dean, an FBI agent that's helping on the new case.

Description from Amazon:

Boston detective Jane Rizzoli hasn't completely recovered from the near-death experience at the hands of a serial killer (The Surgeon) that left her scarred and scared, but that doesn't keep her from going after a copycat murderer whose modus operandi is disturbingly familiar. Warren Hoyt may still be behind bars, but Jane thinks there's a connection between him and the man the police call the Dominator, based on the way this new fiend subdues and violates his victims before he kills them. Political interference from an FBI agent who seems to know more about the Dominator than anyone else only intensifies Jane's determination to solve the case. When Hoyt escapes from prison and teams up with his blood brother to take revenge on the policewoman who put him there, the pace of this truly frightening thriller picks up and drives the narrative to its violent conclusion. --Jane Adams

My review from LT:
Excellent read. The only thing is, its predictable. But i felt like i had to keep reading to find out who the killer was and why he was killing. Kind of like the Hannibal character but he didn't eat people of course.

A very enjoyable read. Entirely captivating and very realistic from the perspective of criminal insight. As ever, some of the best writing that I've come to expect in crime and thrillers comea from Tess Gerritsen. She doesn't seem to disappoint.

I liked this one better than the first book. It took me a bit to finish due to life circumstances. I will continue this series and read other books by this author as well. I would recommend them to others who enjoy this genre.
