I bought Unsaid Things by McFly years ago when it was released because I was obsessed with them as a teenager. I seriously couldn't consume enough information about them. I decided to read it again because I found it in my parent's house. I think I appreciate it more as a adult reading about what they experienced in their lives as individuals and as a band. And I like that it's written with an interview feel because it adds to the feeling that they experienced everything as a band and as best friends. It's hardly a masterpiece of writing but it's very funny in parts and very enjoyable to read. And the nostalgia of it all made it very relaxing and fun! I'll probably revisit this book again in another few years.

"Because the truth, I've found, is always better than lies. And you can't be honest with other people, unless you're being honest with yourself."

To be honest, I am struggling to find the words to describe my feelings for this book. I only know that I haven't really felt this strongly about a book in a long time. Of course, I have read exceptional books that I thoroughly enjoyed, but it's different somehow. This is a story that will stay with me for a long time, I think. It was heartfelt, open, and above all, truly inspirational.

It was brilliant to follow the point of view of all the four band mates, and their different voices. They all experienced a lot during their first ten years as a band, and I think the book does an incredibly job at capturing their journey. It is of course a long period of time to cover in 400 pages and I don't doubt that we only heard a percentage of everything that was going on, but the parts that were described were detailed, and full of emotion.

I didn't know too much about the band's career before 2011, apart from the film and their music of course, so this was a really good way to catch up on that time period and also have the opportunity to hear about it from the guys' own perspective. What I loved most, however, was that it didn't only focus on their achievements or the things that they did. Everything was always described on the basis of their emotions and feelings behind everything.

What I'd also like to mention is that some parts of it are incredibly dark. I knew about some of those things through interviews and such beforehand, but the amount of detail they were described in throughout the story was still a bit of a surprise to me. It is truly emotional at times, and I really, really appreciated the effort the all put in describing their troubles and dark patches. Nothing feels rushed, or glossed over, it all is told with care and respect.
If anything, this book has only elevated the respect and love I have for this band.

Trigger warnings: Detailed description of suicide attempt, drug and alcohol abuse, addiction, withdrawal, unwanted sexual attention, mental health issues such as bi-polar disorder and depression, family troubles such as divorce of parents and parents leaving

Actual rating: 4.9 stars

P.S. The only thing I found a little strange were the prologue and epilogue. They felt somewhat awkward and clumsy for me, but it didn't really take away from the rest of the story, so I didn't really take it into account in my rating much.

I'll admit that I only started listening to McFly after feeling inquisitive when watching Tom's wedding speech video. I've heard of them before but never checked them out. Once I started going through videos after videos of their live acoustics, I was hooked.

The book gives a good insight of their lives and how McFly started. It's great for a new fan like me. The stories told were candid and I liked that I somehow feel that I know them better. Quite a few good laughs in there too.

I've loved McFly for 9 and a half years so I thought I was a pretty big fan, but after reading this I felt like I actually knew them.
I laughed so much while reading this book, I loved it so much. I cried too especially at the part about 'The Great Depression' and Dougie's problems that he had in his life. I though it was so sad to see that behind everything McFly were having real problems, but they kept at it and they've gone so far. I have so much respect for all four of them, I love them so much and the book is amazing! Congratulations McFly <3

This band were my teenage years and this book brought back all those feelings and then some.

All I want to do is listen to McFly now.
