This book has changed the way I look at the world. An inspiration!
medium-paced

I’m changed by The Choice

I don’t know if it’s possible to read this book and not want to mark the pages and read passages 10x over. Dr. Eger’s wisdom comes not from all the schooling, but how she views and analyzes what’s happening around her and how it can help her grow. Her generosity in documenting it for us so we can perceive the world and her people differently and with compassion is a gift I’ll always treasure. This will stay on my nightstand.
challenging emotional informative slow-paced

This book covered a very wide range, and the experience Edith had was truly astounding. It just got a little too clinical toward the end, I felt like I was reading a psychology journal.

It’s heartbreaking to read about the things people have done to each other during the war. It’s empowering to read how Edith lived through it and grew and grew as a person.
emotional sad medium-paced

The Choice by Dr. Edith Eva Eger follows Edith and her family before, during, and after the Holocaust.
The first half of the book was interesting but about half way through the book, the focus changed from Edith and her family to Edith and her psychology patients. I was not expecting this transition and was confused when it happened. I think this book could’ve been separated into two and published as two separate books.

Very moving and impactful memoir. I don’t often select these types of books but I am glad I picked this one up.
challenging dark emotional hopeful inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced

I have just finished a life changing book. A book that I don’t even know how to describe. It has brought me so much perspective on things I had no idea I questioned. It has answered questions from my childhood that I again, had no idea I questioned, let alone remembered. It has taught me about me, it has made me recognize things I honestly never even gave thought to.

Dr. Eger’s story is so similar to many holocaust survivors’, even my grandfathers, who too, was in Auschwitz. However, her outlook and perspective on life is so inspiring. The way she treats every person and every situation is incredible, delicate, and as if they are the only person in the world. With a doctorate in clinical psychology Dr. Eger works with veterans and their traumas channeling her traumas and her experience to help her patients.

Read this book. It surpasses any stars you could ever give it. Besides putting you in perspective, how could you ever rate a book based on someone else’s traumas, which are used to aid people in their traumas? Read it. Thank me later.
