An outlandish and fun adventure. I particularly enjoyed the tips on how to be a spy: how to tail someone, disguises, etc.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK EVER! I love the way Kirsten Miller writes and when you start reading it, you just can't stop!! The characters are smart and real, you feel like they are your real-life friends. AMazing book!

So... that review was written in 2009, when I was an overly-enthusiastic eleven year old whose love for reading had just reached an all-time high. Nine years later and I haven't re-read it, but still have incredibly fond memories of falling in love with the Irregulars. In a way I'm even a bit afraid of giving it another read and finding out it isn't as good as I remember it to be.
But no matter how well-written the prose may or may not be, the sheer joy this book brought to my eleven year old self shows Kirsten Miller achieved something great with Kiki Strike. Her characters were amazing and diverse role models, and I remember how empowered I was.
This book made me feel proud of being a girl for the first time. The female characters are all fall in different places on the femininity spectrum, with some being very traditionally girly with other being complete tomboys. It validated my own lack of girlishness while also making me realize that being a girly and being a badass weren't mutually exclusive. They're all very competent and self-sufficient in their respective areas while still being very real teenage girls.
So, yeah. I truly love this book and I hope other lonely, brainy pre-teen girls who feel weird and out of place also find solace in the Shadow City in the way that I did.

This book brought my childhood fantasies alive. I loved the characters as they all brought thier piece of the puzzle to the story. The adventure never ends, I would recommend it to all teenage girls.

I read this in 6th or 7th grade and loved it, so much so that now at 27 I still remember it.

The survival tips and espionage tricks at the end of each chapter are very helpful, and they’re presented in a memorable and funny way. While I was reading this book, I was inspired to research other underground cities, and I was fascinated to learn that so many existed. I would definitely recommend Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City, and I will be picking up the rest of this series at my local library.

Ok this was an amazing book that instantly caught my eye. But beyond the cover there is so much more. It seriously Draws you in to the world of Kiki Strike and was an amazing novel all around and by the time I was done I was yearning for more. And loving the world that Kristen Miller created and could not wait to read more of it.
