I really liked this. Knew what was going to happen a mile away, but I really liked how that knowledge made me anticipate the reveals anyway.
The Paris Daughter is a wonderful reminder of why Historical Fiction is my favorite genre— it is a beautiful blend of history, mystery, and heart that swept me away from the very first chapter. Harmel’s portrayal of Paris is nothing short of enchanting. And while I've never been to Paris, I could imagine myself walking the streets of Rue Goblet to La Librairie de Rêves as I was reading this novel. Every scene feels meticulously painted with historical accuracy and beauty.
As with any Kristin Harmel novel - bring tissues!

I've read several Kristin Harmel books before, and was really looking forward to read this book.
It starts in 1939 France, where young mothers Elise and Juliette become friends as they meet when they are both pregnant with baby girls. Their friendship deepens as the threat of war becomes a reality.
I can't say much more about the plot without giving so much of the story away, but this story contains so much. The realities of war, how unimaginable circumstances alter life, and how people deal with life. This book had so many emotions in it. I will say, I was a little confused where the story was going in the first part, it seemed to jump time a lot, and not dig too deeply into what was going on in the war, but after reading the whole story, I get it now. I recommend reading this story.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and am so glad I was able to read it.

The book itself was well-written. I have so many tabs on the book and it evoked many emotions as I was reading it BUT the story was lacking for me. Most likely because of my expectation that was not met.
I didn't hate it but I did not love it either. Before I even made it halfway to the book, my mind was set on 3 stars and until the end it is still set on that. I think I will give this book to a friend. It's a good book but I think it's just not for me at the moment.

The Paris Daughter- was interesting despite the narrative being a little predictable. I knew the twist very early in the book. The author was the narrator and this is my first time listening to a book by Harmel. I might have enjoyed the narration more if someone else had read it.
Story of mothers and daughters in this WWII historical fiction set in Paris and New York City. Sacrifice-what they did for their children during the war was one sacrifice after another. We would not know how Jules could carry on without doing what she did.

Author’s note was helpful to understand her process and story development. I appreciate the effort she put into researching PD and BOLN.
Another WWII resistance thread. Interesting perspective on artist community of that time and post-war provenance.
