A great spy thriller with a setting I knew little about, good to read about bad guys other than the Russians!

Very readable. Felt like an introduction to the series and setting it up nicely. Good character build up and, with one exception, didn’t feel as if it was too over the top. Can’t wait to read the next instalment.

The text was too expositional and predictable. However, that is just the genre, not this author specifically.

An enjoyable thriller from the BBC's security correspondent so I assume much of the working of the secret services is well researched.
Here the hero Luke Carlton is newly joined recruit in MI6 having been in the SBS. When a British diplomat/undercover operative is killed in Columbia Luke , with a background in the country is sent to investigate. The plot he unearths suggests a dirty bomb will be planted in London.
Definitely a page turner and I will look forward to trying another in the series.

I enjoyed the storyline of this book. But my goodness it needs a decent editor to sort it out. There’s so much unnecessary technical detail that it distracts from the story. Not to mention the overuse of acronyms that Gardner then has to work into clunky conversation to explain.

The book was good enough that I’ll read another in the series but it could have been so much better.

I started this book with high expectations for a fast and furious crime thriller, but quickly became bogged down in too much explanation of unnecessary items and procedures, unfortunate but may be good for the right type of person!

So-so thriller where disaster is averted by a series of remarkable lucky occurances.
