This was sort of a mix of Squid Game and The Selection series. I really enjoyed the idea of the book more than I liked the actual book. I didn't like really any of the characters except Graham.
I wanted more out of it. I wanted to be on the edge of my seat, but I really wasn't. I wish it were more of a thriller in that way.

This book has to be one of the best young adult books I have read in a long time. It is a biting indictment of white performative allyship and white supremacy. The comparison in regards to Squid Game, and The Bachelors is spot on. It is a slow burner book, but once the plot started to map out everything, it was really at a good pace, revealing more and more layers to the story. Adina Walker was an amazing character. She was unapologetic about her blackness and demanded respect. She was trying to make everyone happy at first, but I like that in her character development she began to assert and stand up for herself, and also others. The love interest gave complexity to the story that I thought was really interesting. I like that she was angry. She had rage and she was willing to do anything to break free from the shackles of expectations that others had for her. The misogynoir she experienced was so relatable. The soundtrack that played in my head when I was reading this book was Beyoncé‘s Lemonade, which centers on black women's/black girls' rage, and the process of healing from it. I wanted to make that the whole soundtrack, but I have some other songs that will exhibit black girl rage. Overall, Joelle Wellington wrote an amazing book that I would recommend to everyone. Thank you, @jowellington , @ColoredPagesBT, and @SimonTeen for letting me be a part of this tour.

The ending certainly had some twists. This book took me on a wild ride where even the characters with seemingly reasoning qualities also had jagged edges.
