Deep under a desolate Utah mountain lies a billion-dollar find, and EarthCore has the technology, the resources, and the guts to take the three-mile plunge. But this deep, where even rock is so hot as to burn bare skin, a centuries old secret has been waiting... and guarding. Kirkland, EarthCore's driving force, is about to find out that some things are better left buried.

Solid action and character writing are highlights of the story, but it was much, much longer than it needed to be. I really had to push myself to finish the last third of the book, which was disappointing.

The epilogue has set up a sequel that follows directly on from this novel's events, but I have no intention of continuing at this time.

This book was wayyyy better than I was expecting it to be!

I would say it's medium to fast paced with a few places where it dragged, but overall it was a really, really good thriller. Kept me interested and tense for basically the entire book. The characters were well written and easy to get invested in.

Highly recommend reading this if you're looking for a good sci-fi thriller.

8/10, will definitely read the sequel.
