This book was somewhat entertaining yet more disappointing.
If one of those siblings ended up inheriting all the money (I wished Portia had) it would’ve been more satisfying. But just a random stranger who was absent half of the book couldn’t do it for me.
I loved “My Lovely Wife” waaaaaay more.

It's really 3.5 stars. I love the twists and turns but some things in it felt a little forced and beyond believability for me!

A slow burning and twisted family road trip with an explosive ending. Samantha Downing is now 2 for 2 with her solid and very differently unique thrillers. She manages to somehow suck me in so effortlessly every time. I eagerly await her next book!

There are open endings and lazy ones. This one is just straight dumb. I think the author got stuck with the last twist and she was tired with this long senseless trip that she gave up.

That was, without a doubt, the single worst ending I've ever read in a book. Ever. And I read over 100 books a year, so that's saying something. Though I won't spoil the ending, read past the tag at your own risk.

SpoilerI'm actually angry I wasted my time with this book. It hooked me at first because the premise of a thriller unfolding over the course of a road trip was a good one, but then it ventured into absurd territory with a soap opera plot that made very little sense and then further insulted me by not even having an actual ending. I get the feeling that what happened was the author painted herself into a corner and decided to go with this non-ending as a "clever" twist.

Wow. I've never been this mad at a book before, and I've been pretty rage-y after finishing some other duds. I'm so done with this author.
