Okay, so I gotta say. After reading the hot mess King's Beast 6 was, this volume of Witch Hat Atelier was absolutely refreshing and impressive. The art style and main storyline is well-done as always. I'm really enjoying Coco's moral dilemma of lying to the general population about how anyone can become a witch if they learn to draw the sigils, but how the leaders of the witch world are right that uncontrolled mass magic users could create a huge mess and the lies are necessary to keep non-witch folk like Coco from trying to get ahold of magic.

The thing that really impressed me most about this volume is chapter 49. It's a side story featuring a minor side character. There's a content warning at the beginning of the chapter, explaining that sexual assault and victim blaming happens in this chapter, and that skipping this chapter will not affect the understanding of the main storyline.

The way the author handled Luluci's memories, and even how the perpetrator of the sexual assault and the witch blaming Luluci for "overreacting" were held responsible for their actions created a space where Luluci was able to overcome that tragedy and she became someone who protects other people from predators like the one that preyed on her.

10/10 well done.
