I decided to give this work a three star rating for the simple reason of the Trigger Warning added on p.88. It was not needed. Shirahama handled the subject of sexual assault well. And I loved that Luluci was a character that had a strong protective instinct willing to risk her life and magic to save her friend from a pedophile. These are examples that young women need in literature! Not to be afraid of what society thinks, or the elites financial influence. But to stand up for the truth! To prove it and fight for those who are weaker or are in trouble no matter what the situation maybe.
I want to make it clear though. I do not mind Trigger Warnings. But these should be done on the website they are selling through such as Amazon. Not in the middle of a piece interrupting the flow of it with statements like:
"This chapter may be skipped entirely; doing so will not interfere with understanding of the main plot, which resumes from page 121." (p. 88)
How does this not effect the main plot? 33 pages of apparent nothing? For me these 33 pages show that magic even in the hands of born in witches is being handled badly. It gives a sense of heart to a seemingly heartless Knight's Moralis. And it causes one to ponder even further if the Brimmed caps are all that wrong in having more people who are not born into magic obtain it. Because could they really do any worse then those born into magic?
All of those thoughts seem pretty important to me.

great volume...
the chapter that dealt with sexual abuse was so affecting. love how the violation was portrayed in simple but striking ways. the hands on the face, the closing door.
the tension that has been rising within coco about having lived life as both outsider and witch lit up in such a cool way... custas joining the brimmed hats is so painful and delicious. the lies and restriction that witch society is bound by but also the necessity to constrain danger. or at least, the necessity that the structures have trained folks to see. once again, paving roads. a better world may be possible but its gonna be a hard fucking play! i just loved this. what a cool story!
