Originally interested after Mark Steel and Kate Bryan both gave it glowing reviews on their episode of A Good Read.
Have really enjoyed his short story collections in the past, but got a lot less from this one. Some laughs along the way and great characters in his parents, but ultimately a little underwhelming. Maybe this is what happens when you only read 15 pages a month and leave the book in Leeds?

This book was not what I expected, but in a good way. It was much more low key and mellow in it's style than I anticipated compared with Alexi Sayle's on stage persona. In the end it turned out to be good account of Liverpool and one scene (the Communist movement) in it through out the 1960s.

Enjoyable and informative; occasionally very funny but less compelling than I thought it would be after 50-ish pages.

Loved it. Some genuine laugh out loud moments.

I finally got around to reading the first part of Alexei's autobiography.

(You can read my review of the second part, Thatcher Stole My Trousers, here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2196567171?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1 ).

I found it more interesting than I thought it would be. Alexei is a gifted storyteller and makes even unfunny things funny.
