This was completely outlandish and required major suspension of disbelief in a way that made it kind of fun, but between all the different points of view we get there isn't a whole lot of suspense or surprises. It sort of feels like it just ends. I've heard such good things about Samantha Downing (though this is my first read of hers), so I'm hoping it was just the hype on this one that let me down. (Also, super small nitpicky thing, but there was an offhand mention of COVID-19 in the story that really threw me for a loop and kind of felt like an afterthought, because nothing else in the book came even close to mentioning the pandemic or seemed to exist in the same world.)
