I LOVED this book so much! Oliver and Emery had me feeling all of my feelings just ALL over the place.

Woof. There is a lot to unpack in this story. Grief and loss, generational and family trauma, sexual assault, child abuse, mental health issues, etc. Oliver and Emery are separately struggling with the circumstances in their lives, and as fate (and romance) has it, their paths converge in this beautiful story about learning to listen to and support one another through different struggles. Emery has so much grace and patience, and Oliver needs someone to help him find the light inside himself. Emery needs to feel like she has someone on her side, and Oliver discovers he wants to be that someone. In the process, these two become friends (and more). The way they grow to love and support one another made my heart swell.

There were several times I cried during this book. For as many times as we are given examples of beautiful lasting love, we are shown hate and hurt, and man...I just needed this to all work out. As someone who has a never-ending list of favorite songs, I appreciated the way music played into the storyline. This is a book I will happily recommend!

Happy Reading!

Brittany, you brilliant woman. I loved this. I started reading your story for the music, but I stayed for the love. Even though my blood boiled with Emery's "parents" when they "said" something, I wanted to let you know that I knew people like them, and I hated them. Kelly, I hope you heal. Abigail, thank you for being a kind human being. Sammie, to be honest, I wouldn't say I liked your decision to abandon Reese, but I understood your POV. Oliver, I'm happy about your progress and glad you didn't give up on yourself. Reese, you sweet kid, you're so bright (you reminded me of my little one). Emery, I was not the favorite child of three; I feel you. (Though I'm not adopted or anything like that) I felt your pain. It must be awesome to be the favorite child for once, but I accepted this through the years. You inspired me, Emery. To all the strong people out there, I salute you all. You deserve extraordinary lives.✨💕

This story follows Emery and Oliver as they navigate financial hardship and grief. This story is very fast paced and character driven. It is a cute and quick read, but there are two moments mentioned that I felt would be major plot points to never be brought up again.
Specifically a 5 year flashback to where Emery and her sister Sammie meet Alex and Oliver. It doesn’t say their names explicitly, but they throw out baby names to the pregnant sister as Reese is Alex’s middle name and Emery’s daughter is named Reese. And it’s never once talked about. Ever. They even took a photo together and in the end Emery says she wishes she could have met Alex, when she obviously did?

The romance book I didn’t know I needed! Such a heartbreaking story of overcoming tragedy and finding the music in our lives.

I loved this book beginning to end. There are some very tough moments that I can’t possibly imagine going through. However, the author handles them in such a beautiful and empowering way.

One thing this book left me with is a need to check in with people.
