The second book in the Crescent City series and follow-up to House of Earth and Blood.

There isn’t much I can say in this review with spoilers, so I’ll just say this was SO good! I’m simultaneously thrilled and heartbroken to officially be caught up with every published SJM book—thrilled because it means I don’t have to dodge spoilers on bookstagram (which is HARD, friends, let me tell you) but heartbroken because, well, I have no new SJM books to read (until January, of course). Either way, I feel like a true fan now!

As for this series, I’m so glad I saved it for last, because I do think it has much more impact if you’ve read both ACOTAR and TOG first. But, if you love SJM’s other works and you’ve been dragging your feet on reading Crescent City (yes these are CHUNKY books), please take this as your sign to dive in!

Recommended to anyone, but especially if you like: urban fantasy; so many Easter eggs; super complex plots

CW: Violence/blood/injury/war; mentions of slavery/torture; mentions of misogyny/sexism

The second installment of Crescent City was just as fun as the first! I loved that the author continued the mystery plot line from the first book. The cast of characters and the world building are excellent and the ending was such an exciting plot twist that has me especially excited for the next book!

I would say I was mildly enjoying this book for almost all of it until the end. The end honestly knocked this up from a 3 star to a 4. I felt the same way about the first book. It reads like a mystery where you are slogging through them running around like chickens with their heads cut off, chasing dead end leads for the entire book until it finally all comes to a head with a reveal and near death experience in the end. Obviously it’s more detailed than that. Sarah J Mass definitely comes up with twists that I cannot for the life of me guess even a page before. I have never been so shook by and ending; I’ve seriously never read anything like it. Hang in there an make it to the end, it’s worth it! P.s. I hate the name Bryce.

I need some time to process this. Holy shit. I’ve never read 700 pages so fast in my life. I have so many questions. My heart, in pieces. My brain, on the wall. My soul, well…
5 stars. Can’t wait for the next one. SJM if you fumble this as hard as ACOSF I will never recover.

The way I am ABSOLUTELY SCREAMING at SJM right now. And the way I could not stop laughing through the last chapter because I KNEW. This book was such a wild ride and I simply could not put it down.. when someone tells you to read this series, listen to them.
