Wow, what a terrific but terrifying read. This are hot and only getting hotter. Yes the heat will kill humans but of course those on the fringes first. It’s also going to ruin our systems, notably our food supply. The global south will suffer first, and of course sea waters are rising and wildfires are happening much more often. Can we change in time? Will we? I’m sad, but this is a great book.

I have a new healthy fear of and respect for hyperthermia. Also heat. Gonna be a figure in my work going forward.

I know that heat can be dangerous but I really didn’t understand the full extent of the danger, or just how much catastrophe our future could hold if we don’t collectively get our shit together. The bit about the heat wave in Paris and the death toll that came with it was particularly surprising to me. The part about the potential for new and deadlier pandemics was scary, and the last chapter in which the author personifies a mother polar bear was a bit too much dramatic flair. Maybe, don’t read this book if you are depressed.
