CW: Mental Illness, gaslighting, ableism, alcoholism, disordered eating, body shaming/fatphobia, murder, death, bullying, violence, blood, toxic friendship, suicide attempt, grief, cancer/terminal illness, some sexual content

I'm not necessarily entirely happy with the mental illness rep, but overall, I really enjoyed this. that ending, I swear. I love Riley Sager's writing and I'm so glad I finally got to this one.

For the moment, I really like Riley Sager. Again, it think this book was really good. The end was so good.
I liked how we didn't really know if what she was seeing was real or not. Poor Emma. I really liked how the past and present were mixed.
Sager, again, gave us many suspects to put our mind on, I never knew what really happened. My suspicion went on and off continuously.

Sager’s work is so confusing to me. he can write incredible stories and he can write terrible stories with good ideas. this happened to be an incredible story. i could be biased because i LOVE summer camp horror stuff but i was intrigued the entire time. The plot twist was so interesting. I still have a slight problem with the way he write women sometimes but i did enjoy this book.

I had no idea that this book would sensationalise mental illness for tension and drama before going into it. I have finished it, but for that reason I won’t be rating it.

It was a pretty quick read once I got into the story. I enjoyed the story overall, though some of Emma's thought process was a bit repetitive to read.
Some of the ending twists landed, some didn't.
I liked Chet's motivation and think it made sense, amd Viv's twist at the ending was interesting to say the least. Lottie's twist and the asylum backstory felt like they stopped short, like it didn't quite go there.

Which leads me to how there was a lot of build up in this book for some spooky, dark, and teisted things but it stops short. Which is good news for those thrillers readers who still want the twists and turns without the super heavy ending. For me, it's spooky season so I was willing amd ready for it to run completely with the darkness.
One side note, I really enjoyed the setting and environment. It was well developed and I could easily visualize what everything was supposed to feel and look like.

I shouldn’t have read this. I only did because I still owned it, despite deciding I’ve given up on Riley Sager after Home Before Dark.
