The Absolute Book is His Dark Materials meets The DaVinci Code with a sprinkling of Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell, if that makes sense. This book was so well-written and well-paced that I positively flew through it despite its length.

DNF.

The first book I've ever DNF'd.

I got 123 pages in and could not grasp the plot, nor did I like any of the characters.

This is such a wild and complicated book that its really hard to explain all my feelings about it. I will say that playing the music The Sixth Station by Joe Hisaishi accompanies the chapter Purgatory so well.

DNF
It was mildly compelling up until the weird diversion to fairyland in the midst of a contemporary crime drama. Didn’t even get to the bits involving Aotearoa which was annoying, oh well

Just couldn't get into it. It sounded so cool and then...it just wasn't.
