If stories could pull out your heart and make you cry from within and an ache that will take long to go, then this is one of them.
A mess of a mind which couldn’t formulate words. It isn’t the best nor the most beautiful story ever written
This may not be everyone’s cup of coffee either
But it’s something that crushed which was already broken that I am angry and at peace the same time reading this story

Wish things had been different as always but that’s life
It’s completely terrible and still we can’t hate it and get to be lucky enough to live each moment….

My favorite book of Yoon's so far because every part of it was satisfying and sweet.

I don’t think this book was for me, but I did enjoy the story as a whole.

3.5

I finished this book minutes ago and honestly, I still don't know how I feel about it.

Some parts of the book struck me as generic, with overdone interactions and a somewhat unnatural plot progression. The flow of events felt choppy and cliché, especially with the first few X interactions. Also, in my opinion, Evie talking about his father was mishandled in the first 100 pages. I do understand that her relationship with her father is one of the focal points of the book, but the lines about how her father's betrayal were inserted a bit too often and randomly to be subtle. Although, considering she was still grieving, it does make sense that her thoughts always seemed to lead back to her father's infidelity.

However, the twist completely and utterly blindsided me. The build-up to the moment was perfectly crafted to maximize its impact and made it impossible to put down the book without finishing it first. Before the twist, I was starting to think that Evie's power wasn't nearly as important to the plot as I thought it would be. I'd really love to read that moment for the first time again, it was wonderful. Yet Evie became a little less relatable as a result. I don't think anybody, no matter how much love they have for the person, would be able to bare that piece of information. The romance in the book in general was a little too star-eyed for my tastes, but it was still very charming at times. Nonetheless, the ending was really bittersweet and well done.

One thing that kinda pissed me off was the way the book treated the topic of cheating. How is it that Evie's father had the audacity to ask his daughter to attend his wedding? And keep in mind, when he asked her, he and Evie hadn't talked about WHY he cheated on his mother (not that his reason made it better, but it's a needed conversation before even dreaming of inviting your daughter). If my father cheated on my mother, I wouldn't approach his wedding ground with a five foot pole.

All in all, it was a decent read. The plot felt all over the place at times, with Cassidy and Sophie, the dance competition, Evie's dad and Shirley, Evie's power, X and Evie. But the ending made it all worth it, 3.5/5.

I've always been a fan of everything Nicola Yoon has written and this is no different! The romance in this book was super sweet but also was definitely insta-love (or at least it felt like that). The author always does such an amazing job making the characters feel real.

Thank you to Random House Children's, Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an eBook copy to review.

I absolutely love her writing! This is my second book of hers I’ve read and I’m surely going to read the other one too. My heart broke for Evie throughout the entire book, but I loved the resolution she came to. Although I love her character, I did have a major problem with her dad and his fiancé. It makes sense she is so upsetting and getting remarried so quickly would definitely worsen that feeling. His fiancé’s whole family talking about what a family man he is felt a bit off key.

Devastating as usual but maybe i didnt have enough time to absorb the grief? so it didnt hit quite as hard as the sun is also a star
