I'm so glad that I was warned that this was not a HEA. Even though I knew I still cried so hard.
Ugh but it was so worth it. This book is heartbreakingly beautiful. If all of Nicola's books are like this I'll need to pace myself because I cannot be this distraught back to back, but I loved the world she created and I can't wait to read more of her work. I was feeling really cynical before I read this book. My usual fluffy happy books weren't working so I thought, why not read something that will just break my heart open. It did :'(.
Proceed with caution. The chemistry and banter are soooo good but yeah this story will break your heart but I guess all love stories do eventually.

oh my god this book took me through the motions.... the plot twist quite literally had me on the floor. "instructions for dancing" is a such beautiful exploration of love through the lens of an older teen, the good, the bad and the in-between. the skepticism that evie has towards love, where it stems from and how she goes through the process of unlearning it was amazingly written.
All of her books have an absent or bungling father. There are some good elements, but I need to remember that I only like 1 of her books, the sun is also a star.
Excuse me as I wipe away the tears I shed as I was finishing this book. “The time we get is the time we get”. Evie and X had such a sweet young love story. Really enjoyed all of the philosophies/takes on love. But now I am just SAD.
Made it 29%.
Insta-love isn't made any more acceptable when the main character makes fun of it while in the process of doing it. In fact, it somehow makes it worse.

Now. This book has left me absolutely feeling all the feels. A hard book to read if you’re experiencing or have experienced heart break but with an amazing lesson and message of hope and love. Highly recommend
Horribly underrated and overlooked. A surprisingly moving story about love and loss, not just romantic but also families and friendships. Don’t read if you need a HEA; do read if you like a little more depth to your YA romance.
First, thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC. To be fair, NetGalley giving me an ARC of Everything, Everything years ago is how I found out about Nicola Yoon, so really thanks for being my introduction to her writing 5 years ago.
I need to sit with this for a while. It may be a 5 star read on consideration, but right now I'm sticking with 4 stars. I didn't expect to tear up in the last few pages of this, but knowing how gorgeous Nicola Yoon's writing is and how her previous stories have affected me, I shouldn't be surprised.
I loved Evie and X. I loved the dancing (although I wish there was more of it). I really liked the supporting cast (although I wish Danica had a bigger role, because she seemed so great (I'd read a sequel about her life post-Evie graduating)). Good and bad parenting was represented amongst the various parents. Excellent grandparenting
Overall this was such an inventive story with an really excellent ending. About the ending, I think some people are going to hate it but.... That said, I think this is worth the read and the emotional ride.
