This literally made my heart hurt.

3,5/5 ⭐️
I love Nicole Yoon and she‘s an absolute talent. I didn‘t expect the ending and tbh it made me cry so hard. I‘m sobbing and mad. I like the book but I think it‘s more for younger ones (under 21). At first I didn‘t like the book a lot and didn‘t expect to love the metaphor of it.
Even if the book isn‘t my fav one, I really liked the metaphor of it! But it really hurt me :(

I love it here. Nicola Yoon will probably always be an auto-buy author for me since reading her first book. This was just so *clenches heart*

4.5 stars - This book was lovely and heartbreaking at the same time. It was such an addicting read; I didn’t want to put it down! I must say this was the quickest I’ve gotten through a book in months. This book definitely appealed to my cynical, but still-in-love-with-rom-coms heart and I could certainly see myself in Evie and how she sees the world. There is one thing towards the end that left me wanting something ~different~ but overall I really enjoyed this one. X was adorable, clever, witty and the perfect match for Evie. I loved Evie’s quirky friend Martin (gotta love a teenage boy who loves tweed) and her friend Sophie (jury is still out on Cassidy). This book was classic Nicola Yoon, in that it hits you in the feels, wrecks you a bit, but leaves you with hope and feeling like love can exist in spite of all the events that tell you it doesn’t.

A cute read perfect for Valentine’s Day weekend. I’m not a huge fan of romances but read this one at a good time

did not expect to be sad

This book was both what I expected and not what I expected, but in the best way. I read my first Nicola Yoon (The Sun is Also a Star- yes I was late to that train but still really enjoyed it) earlier this year, and I can say with certainty that Instructions for Dancing will definitely not be my last Nicola Yoon. It was beautiful, funny, and at times heart wrenching. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for anything else this author publishes!

this was more enjoyable than the sun is also a star for me but less so than everything, everything (although i have doubts that would hold up for me in a reread tbh). i really liked aspects of this a lot, but other parts kind of infuriated me. there was a part towards the end that made me say "this is dumb" out loud, so that's never a good sign!! over all middle of the road, as reflected by the 3 stars.

Sweet, moving romance about love and loss, with a touch of magic realism. I enjoyed this one a lot.

Well this book was a tearjerker. I was not expecting this kind of emotion and depth from a YA romance novel. I usually lower my expectations for a YA book. Mainly because teens can be immature and kind of annoying. That was not the case for this book. The character development and stories are wonderful, yet bittersweet.

Evie, our heroine, is disillusioned about love after watching her parents' marriage fall apart. Through a book and an interaction with a mystery character she gets the ability to see the beginning, middle and end of couples' relationships when they kiss. This magical element is incorporated extremely well into the story. It sets the tone but doesn't become a whole thing. X, her love interest, isn't as well fleshed out but we can't see in his head. He's awesome though. Kind, understanding, up for anything. He's the perfect foil to Evie hesitancy and darkness.

This book is not your typical YA romance. Evie is going through a lot with her family and friends and is struggling to feel like love is worth the risk it includes. X draws her out and makes her believe again. This book is bittersweet though. Things don't always end with a neat bow in life or literature. It was still a beautiful book. I loved the magical element, the dancing, the love stories that it featured, the friendship and the family issues.

The one issue I had was the quick-ish forgiveness of the father. My enneagram 1 came out hard and just said "Nope". Every story has two sides but I just couldn't get on board with the cheating element.
