This book WRECKED me and I read it in one day. Am I surprised? Absolutely not. Nicola Yoon is one of the best authors I’ve ever read. “Everything, Everything” left me speechless and it’s fair to say that Instructions for dancing did too. Although this may seem like just a romance novel, it’s way more than that. It’s about not only love, but also the beautiful life we live and how we can choose to view difficult times.
Thank you Nicola Yoon for writing such a beautiful book.

I really, really liked this one. It’s been a minute since I’ve read a YA novel and this was a great reminder about why I’d previously enjoyed the genre. The sweet, young romance that reminds you of your own, the wise women that remind you of the lessons you’ve learned and the ones still forming. The twist caught me by surprise and the ending is beautiful and thought provoking.
I WISH I READ THIS AS A TEENAGER AHHHHHH
two dark skin teens having a sweet rom-com storyline was just so much fun. i love that the ‘enemies’ to lovers trope is completely altered by evie’s abilities. it’s a great exploration of love and the complexities of relationships, from the eyes of a jaded teen.
*SPOILERS
i cried so hard when evie saw their future. i know it was kind of predictable, considering the nature of her power BUT I LITERALLY BROKE DOWNNN. this book is a great way to share the whole message of just enjoying life as it comes and appreciating people while they’re there but fucking hell didn’t have to rip me apart like that. evie is meee!! watching her learn that love doesn’t have to last forever to be important was low-key me talking to myself.

I liked the message that even though something might end bad you should still take the gamble but I just didn't like how dense Evie seemed sometimes. Also I wouldn't have forgiven the dad and I feel like everyone acting like shes the bad person for being mad is a little strange. Also why not tell the sister? Shes not a tiny child. Its okay to know the truth but I feel like that added to some of the stress for Evie.
Okay, more like 3.5. It was such an easy read, and it was cute and mushy in all the ways 14 year old me would’ve swooned over. But the ending just made me frustrated and made me want more. But alas… isn’t that the point?

All I can express is wow—”Instructions for Dancing” encompassed everything: exquisite writing, rich diversity, laugh-out-loud one-liners, love, life lessons, unforgettable moments, and remarkable characters. This book has transformed my perspective on romance novels, shaping both my enjoyment and the insights I gain from them. While I delight in picturing my favorite couples as deeply in love and thriving somewhere, I can’t help but wonder: what if they aren't? Does that diminish the quality of the romance novel?
I love the message 'Instructions For Dancing' conveys to it's readers. It's not forever that matters, it's the time you spend, the memories you create and the emotions you feel while in a relationship however short or long it may be, this book was less of romance and more of the main character Evie's journey to finding the importance of love again and overcoming her fears of how her relationships in the future might end.
It took me a week to read it completely, I postponed it as long as I could, because I had read that thge book had a sad ending but I'm glad I finished it.
