I like new and uncomfortable ideas - think of it as thrill seeking but within the mind. Honestly, maybe due to repeated exposure, it's been a while since I had a "mind blown" experience. This book delivered. There were parts that required a fair bit of concentration/attention to digest, but it is well worth it.

I dunno, man! I'm glad I read it, and it gave me some stuff to think about, but I don't necessarily think I enjoyed it, as such. I think I disagree with the fundamental argument being made here, but it was interesting to contemplate! It's probably good for me to read something a little philosophical once in a while, in between all my plot-centric space fantasy adventures.

First 5 star read of 2024! Love the dry humor and the unique approach to first contact. Love all the theories and questions that this book raises. And absolutely love the take on vampires.
