First 5 star read of 2024! Love the dry humor and the unique approach to first contact. Love all the theories and questions that this book raises. And absolutely love the take on vampires.

What a great book, I started this years ago but knew I’d never finished it, I’m glad I have now

I think people describe this as horror, and I kinda see it; “Are there or are there not spooky aliens in this thing?” But I didn’t find it very scary
bit of a downer ending maybe (with shades of childhood’s end, this is the second book this year I’ve read with the last human observing the end of humanity)

I attempted to read starfish by this author and really hated it so I was a little hesitant to read another book by Peter Watts. But I’m really happy I gave him another chance. This book is really weird, like vampires in scifi. I loved it. I’m going to reread this at some point, since I’m sure some of the hard scifi elements I didn’t fully grasp.

Really hard to follow book, the world-building was all over the place and it just didn’t do it for me. The parts about sentience was interesting but overall it just tried to do to much in one small book.
