This is the first time in reading this book, i haven't seen the movie either. I'm a grown adult so I know I'm not the target audience

But I will say this book is way to religious to actually be enjoyable. Especially as a fantasy. Another thing is that the only characters that are sorta enjoyable are also always pushed aside

The book contains huge elements of Christianity, still, it's fun too read. The reason why I recommend to the people is because book is light, so people who avoid heavy mood will love this book.

This is the third time I've read this book. The first was in second grade when it was read to me by a teacher that dramatically shaped my literary landscape. I can still remember, with profound detail, sitting on the carpet with my classmates while she read this story to us.

I read the entire Chronicles of Narnia to myself as a teenager and have been waiting over seven years since having my first child to read it to him. The day finally came that I thought he was old enough and we just finished reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe aloud. I literally had chills running through my body the entire time. I'm not sure, in my prior two readings, that it occurred to me how startlingly beautiful the prose is in this story. Narnia was evoked in my mind as if it was something long forgotten and then suddenly brought back to life. I absolutely loved reading this to my child, and it makes me wonder (as I often do): where are the books for children of this calibre being written today?! Am I missing them? Are there just no recent stories that compare?

I'm also reading Harry Potter to my son right now and while I do truly enjoy those books they are certainly missing the carefully crafted, poetic tone of this one, and I wonder if there are other books in this vein that I have overlooked.

Whatever the case, I believe this is still one of the most wonderful books I've read in my life, and probably one I'll return to again, maybe to read to my daughter in a few years time, or perhaps to read to my grandchildren one day far into the future.

Reading it again, November 2022 with my six year old daughter. She is a precocious enough reader to read much of it to me! She loves it, and so do I. She reads "Aslan has come to Narnia" and I feel goosebumps erupt over my skin. I shiver again as the beaver tells the children to come "further in". I sink into this story like the warmest blanket. If I could request to have a story read to me on my deathbed, this would be it. I hope my own end will be a moment of wonder--Lucy stepping into the wardrobe.

RE-READ. First read to my by my fourth grade teacher, and re-read countless times since then. A timeless, classic fable, and my favorite part of the book is perhaps the dedication at the beginning: Lewis's assertion that "someday, you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again." I think that is such a beautiful, simple encapsulation of earned wisdom.

For me, this book also always, always brings to mind the first time I ever tried Turkish Delight, at which point my first thought was: "Edmund betrayed his family for THIS?!" Do better, Edmund.

Obviously as an adult, and as someone who has since read this as part of a religious class and written a paper on it, the allegory is more in my face. I've long ago disposed of any religion/faith in my life, and I sometimes grate at certain takes on morality, but I still appreciate the gentleness of these stories.
