disclaimer: I don’t really give starred reviews. I enjoy most books for what they are, & I extract lessons from them all. I hope my reviews provide enough information to let you know if a book is for you or not. Find me here: https://linktr.ee/bookishmillennial

This review is going to be short and sweet, which is wild because I usually do not stfu! Anyway, my mind is in a million places today but I do want to say that if you haven't read a John Green book yet, take this as your sign to do so! He is probably one of three cishet white men that I will read anything by him lol. The way he wrote the mental health representation here was beautiful, and I teared up a few times reading this. His writing and his characters are tender, flawed (as humans are), authentic, hopeful, and comforting. His writing is an example of young adult main characters getting their due and being portrayed in a respectful and compassionate way!

I read this book early in high school but decided to read it again because I didn't really remember anything about it. I liked it a lot - the story was creative and interesting, and I like that it portrays mental health conditions in such a humanizing way. Aza and Daisy's friendship was also great, and while I am admittedly a bit sad that Aza and Davis did not end up together, I think that was the most realistic thing that could have happened. It did feel a little teenager-deep at times, but in general, it was really entertaining and I'm very glad I decided to reread it! I'd recommend this one to anyone who is a fan of John Green or is interested in stories about mental health.

Talks about OCD and the character’s struggle with compulsions. Illustrates the realistic struggle of someone with ocd very well.

Cried all the way through but I knew I would. I know John Green has OCD and he’s done an absolutely brilliant job conveying exactly what it sounds like in my brain. I guess I just hope for me and for John and for Aza is that we all end up okay. I hope that’s not too much to ask.
