I watched the movie first. Maybe that is the reason, I didn't like it.

As a fan of the movie first, I'm happy to say the book did not disappoint. It's nicer to see that every quoteable line from that film is pulled directly from these pages verbatim, which is a testament to the fantastic writing. Some spots felt a little short and rushed, and it was hard to connect to many characters outside of Leonidas as they were all so similar looking and sparsely called upon.

Both the graphic novel and the movie based off it are visually stunning. I mean, the movie has numerous scantily clad, well-oiled men. The book depicts the starkness of war in an overwhelming fashion. You can not read this novel in a sarcastic mood, but if you're willing to approach this story with the gravitas it requires, it's an arresting tale of military glory.

Bloody and brilliant. A great tale of heroism that's a quick read.

If Watchmen was what defines Alan Moore... then 300 is the ultimate definition of Frank Miller.

“Our arrows will blot out the sun”

“Then we will fight in the shade”

Epic, full page hordes of armies and blood fuelled fighting. The decision to do this in landscape A4 is a master stroke and you feel as entranced as you are during the film. The artwork is cool, if anything a little clunky at points, but what really makes this is the dialogue. So many lines that are movie worthy (shock horror they did just that). It’s epic and punchy and I love it.
