This is the first Agatha Christie mystery and introduces Poirot and is told from the view point of Hastings. It takes place during World War I in a small Essex village. Hastings is staying at the manor house when the lady of the house is found dead in mysterious circumstances. He enlists Poirot's help in solving the crime. The mystery was good with lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed reading it.

So many red herrings to end up back where we started was definitely unexpected! The wrap up and final link where done very well and I definitely did not see Miss Howard being an accomplice to Mr. Ingelthorp to murder his wife. I quickly moved on from Alfred and suspected Lawerence up until the very end to be honest. The foreshadowing and hints dropped through our were done masterfully and I like how Agatha points to them in the final two chapters and goes here you fools lol!
