Is it wrong that Nikolai is my favorite character now? Because if that’s wrong I don’t want to be right. He brings so much life to the dialogue and I love his banter with Alina and even Mal. He’s such a refreshing personality at a point in this series when things are looking pretty bleak.
Also, my crush on the Darkling is alive and well and I still for horrible about it. I have a feeling that the direction this is going for him is going to devastate me.

Definitely a filler book, but I liked the ending. It made sense and set up a good direction for book 3.
Mal was so annoying. He went from being completely oblivious to Alina in book 1 to feeling entitled to her. His moping and drinking just need to stop.
Nikolai was... Okay. I think yall hyped him up too much and I was disappointed lol. I'm still excited to learn more about him in King of Scars, especially since Leigh's writing has improved.
I wish the Darkling was more present. He sucks, but at least he's interesting.

This was an exciting read. It was too great a gap between when I read the first book and this one.

I found myself seriously confused about the plot and dynamic between characters. However I still found the book to be gripping and very readable. The world building was good too.

I am still going to continue and read book 3 next.
