This was such a fun book. It was low angst and I loved that all the drama happened outside Lucy and Duke’s relationship. Their meet cute was so perfect for a book set in Montana. I loved the secret identity trope!

Lucy and Duke had a bit of an insta love journey. They both had moments where they questioned their feelings, when Duke realized Lucy had given him a fake name and for Lucy, when Duke took the bribe to keep her name quiet. But they quickly learned their initial impressions of each other were right.

I loved how protective Duke was of Lucy and his town. He went out of his way to keep everyone safe and was a respected member of Calamity, not just because he was the sherif. Lucy found her place in Calamity. Once she decided she was done hiding she found peace in the small Montana community.

I loved the suspense at the end. I never would have guessed who the stalker was, but the ultimate villain was clear from the beginning. I loved the little side story with Travis and the way Duke cared for him like his son.

This was the perfect introduction to Calamity. There were so many secondary characters who popped in and out and it’ll be interesting to see how they all get their stories down the road.

Duke gave me the ick really fast but it really sealed the deal when he said : "My mom's a teacher. She always says it takes her a couple of weeks every summer to slow down and transition from kid wrangler to domestic goddess." ugh

What a great start to this series!

There is nothing better than starting a new Devney Perry series. A new world, a new batch of characters, and stories that you know are going to be crazy good. And that’s exactly what The Bribe is.

Lucy met Duke on a trail in Yellowstone, but she had no idea what would happen once she moved to the small town of Calamity. She was looking for somewhere to hide, and what she finds instead is a life she could have never imagined.

Devney has given us more than a small town romance with this one. There are twists and turns, action and suspense, emotion and spice, you know all the good things. This is the first book in this series of interconnected standalones and I for one am excited to see what she has in store for us next!

If you have never read Devney, this is going to be the perfect place to start. Trust me when I say you won’t regret it!
