Waxwork Records is a pioneer in the revival of the nostalgic, campy, horror movie feel and their work pressing classic movie soundtracks on vinyl in the recent years has led to a growing resurgence of people craving and recreating this feel and vibe. Waxwork Comics' work on "House Of Waxwork Vol. 1" is a prime example of that.
The issue contains two separate stories (who doesn't love a good horror anthology?). I don't feel like giving away the plotlines for either of them, part of what makes this issue so fun is the little surprises sprinkled throughout. Let's just say the first is similar to "Cabin In The Woods" or "The Evil Dead", while the second story pays some heavy omage to John Carpenter's "The Fog".
Overall, this is a very fun read and the 7" vinyl record that comes with it is not only a treat for the eye, but just listening to it shows the hard work and attention to detail that Waxwork Records puts into their products. Highly worth buying.
