I say this every time, the author has smashed it again. This story brings us slap bang back into the lives of Kim and her colleagues as they attempt to find a way to live with the grief they feel on a daily basis.

The ending of the last book left the team minus one of their own, something every single one of them is struggling with as we start this book. The way each of them deals with their grief varies, but Kim seems to struggle most as she totally blames herself for everything that happened.

I honestly don’t feel I can do the story justice other than say this once more cements the authors place as a firm favourite of mine. Roll on the next one.

Huge thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Fatal Promise
4 Stars

D.I. Kim Stone and her small squad are recovering from the devastating loss of their teammate when they are called in to investigate the murder of a suspect from their previous case. Will Kim be able to keep her team together long enough to catch a malicious killer?

*Warning: Spoiler for the previous book*

It is a testament to Angela Marsons incredible writing skill that she manages to convey the intense sense of loss experienced by the team at Kevin Dawson's tragic death in the line of duty. Kim and Stacey, in particular, do not react well, and this is manifest in their attitude toward Dawson's replacement. While their resentment is understandable, it is also irritating, especially considering the fact that Penn is such a wonderful person.

The case itself is fast-paced with an action-packed climax and resolution. There are some very good red-herrings along the way although it is possible to figure out the identity of the culprit.

On a final note, Marsons is in dire need of a professional proofreader. There are too many grammar, spelling and punctuation errors for the 9th book in a series.

This series is one of my favorite thriller series. Even after 8 books, this has the same momentum as the first book. Absolutely love Angela Marsons writing and also loved that this contained storyline from the last book.

A perfect read for mystery fans.

More detailed review soon.

it was tough to get back into this one after the tragic conculsion of the previous book. I loved how the author dealt with it and even though the plot wasn't my favorite it the series it was very strong and captivating.
I think this is my favorite series and the narration is perfect.

Another great book in this fantastic crime series. These books get better and better with every one and we are only 9 books in of at least 16. This one was very interesting as it was two cases being ran together one by the whole team and one by Stacy. The team are all getting over the loss of Dawson and have to accept having a new member of the team to help them for the case there investigating. this was a gripping book and I was not able to figure out who'd done it. These books get better and better with every read and you see a bit more of Kim in each book. I would imagine sooner or later Kim will have to face her past and it will be interesting to see how she reacts when that finally happens. I really love the characters in this series and they are being developed extremely well. Can't wait for number 10. Would highly recommend this great series of books.

Thanks to Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book definitely found the characters recovering from their own personal grief at the forefront rather than the case- the book does not suffer for it. The plot is good and interesting but the character development is great for a reader of the whole series.
